Boulder City Hosts Short Film Festival

Like a short story, a short film must get to its point quickly.

Next week film lovers will get a chance to see some of the best short films in the country at the 8th annual Dam Short Film Festival. The film festival will feature sci-fi, drama, comedy, horror, documentary and animation. There will also be student films and films by Nevada filmmakers.

All screenings will be at the historic Boulder Theatre, 1225 Arizona Street. The 400 seat theatre was built in 1931. For several years, it was the only air-conditioned space in the area.

The Boulder Dam Hotel will play host to other events in the festival including filmmaker press conferences and the filmmaker lounge.

Tickets for each film program or showcase is $6. People can get a three-day pass for $50. The films start at 11 a.m. Thursday. They continue through Saturday evening. The post-festival awards program is set for 11 p.m. Saturday. There are 106 films divided into 19 different categories.

The festival is being put together by the Dam Short Film Society. For the complete film schedule, go to damshortfilm.org
