Navajo Rug and Jewelry Show Set for Saturday

Traditional rugs and jewelry from the Navajo Nation will be on display and for sale this weekend at the Alan Bible Visitor Center.

From 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, the Navajo Rug and Jewelry show will exhibit and have for sale items made by Native American artisans.

The items are from Hubbell Trading Post, which is the oldest continuously operated trading post on the Navajo Nation.

There will also be two discussions with a rug trader and a master weaver about the history of the rugs, the symbols that are used and artistry of the rugs. Those discussions will be at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Throughout the day a master weaver will demonstrate how a rug is made.

The event is hosted by Western National Parks Association, a nonprofit partner of the National Park Service. There is more information at wnpa.org or by calling (702) 293-8990.
