The National Park Service is seeking some volunteers to help them clean up Lake Mead. As part of "Operation Zero", participants would get to take a scenic boat ride over the lake, typically about 45 minutes, and then spend 2 hours cleaning up litter from the area before another ride back to the starting point.

“There are more people who love the lake than have a boat,” said Lake Mead Volunteer Manager Nancy Bernard. “We came up with this program to cleanup remote areas while giving families and groups a chance to get out on the lake.”

NPS is searching for groups of volunteers who are available on the following days to take place in "Operation Zero":

  • Saturday, Apr. 2
  • Thursday, Apr. 7
  • Thursday, Apr. 28
  • Thursday, May 5
  • Thursday, May 12
  • Thursday, May 19

Families or groups interested in participating should contact Chris Pietrafeso at Christopher_Pietrafeso@nps.gov or (702) 293-8711. For other volunteer opportunities visit http://www.getoutdoorsnevada.org.
