Girl Scout Summer Camp Registration is Now Open!

The Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada are now accepting summer camp registrations for the 2011 summer sessions, which begin as early as from June 19 to August 14th. Programs include activities such as hiking, biking, rock climbing, adventure courses, campfires, and more!

“Summer camp has been a tradition in the U.S. for more than 150 years. Girls spending time at Camp Foxtail this summer will find themselves on an adventure with fresh new challenges and pushing themselves to achieve them,” said Kelle Boteilho, Chief Operating Officer. “Girls will walk away with new friends and memories to last a lifetime.”

Las Vegas Will Go Bald for The St. Baldrick’s Foundation March 5th!

This Saturday, March 5th marks the annual head shaving fundraiser for the St. Baldrick's foundation, an event that started with an attempt to raise $1,000 for childhood cancer research, and has ballooned into a huge event. Over 300 southern Nevadans have signed up to shave their heads on Saturday, and have formed highly competitive teams looking to raise the most in donations. Participants include everyone from celebrities to cancer survivors to teens.

Mary Hinson named 2011 Honorary New Balance Survivor!

Mary Hinson, of Boulder City, NV has been named the 2011 Honorary New Balance Survivor by the Southern Nevada Affiliate of Susan G. Komen! She will be the Honorary Team New Balance member at this year's Race for the Cure, which will be held on May 7th in downtown Las Vegas. Team New Balance is made up of men and women who have beaten cancer and gone on to share their stories with the world.

“I’d like to think I was nominated to be the 2011 New Balance Survivor for my commitment to raising funds and awareness that early detection saves lives,” said Hinson. “I’m honored to have been nominated and dedicate it to my family, friends, fellow survivors and health care professionals who help me be the best survivor that I can be. I also want to personally thank Susan G. Komen Southern Nevada for reaching out to me in my time of need.”

Boulder City's Annual 4th of July Damboree Celebration

The annual Boulder City 4th of July Damboree begins at 7 a.m. with a Rotary Pancake Breakfast at Bicentennial Park. The parade starts at 9 a.m. at Colorado and ends at Broadbent Memorial Park where there is entertainment, food and games until 4 p.m. At 6 p.m. the entertainment moves to Veterans Memorial Park with fireworks at 9 p.m.
