LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The landmark Hacienda hotel off U.S. 93 near the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead is one step closer to become the Hoover Dam Lodge.

The owner of a chain of "Dotty's" storefront slot machine taverns is in the process buying the 300-room hotel, and plans to give it a new name.

On Wednesday, state gambling regulators gave the purchase a preliminary OK.  The Nevada Gaming Commission is expected to make a final decision later in the month.

The hotel is just outside of Boulder City, and a 15-minute drive from the dam.

Once the deal goes through, the Hacienda is expected close for a week for remodeling, and reopen shortly after Christmas. The new owners will update hotel rooms, and replace live table games with computerized blackjack, craps and roulette.
