Teen Returns to School Year After Devastating Accident

Giulian Grasso back in the classroom.

BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- While many teens are counting down the days until summer break,  one teen who survived a tragic accident is happy to be back in the classroom.

Giulian Grasso was out of school for the past year as he recuperated from a debilitating skateboard accident. Wednesday, he returned in a wheelchair, to Boulder City High School. His journey back to the classroom was difficult, long and painful.

He admitted to being slightly nervous as he made his way into the halls of Boulder City High School. Doctors were doubtful the 6-foot-8-inch 16-year-old would ever see this day.

Giulian's story started exactly 13 months ago. He was a state swimming champ and Navy C cadet, but a wrong turn on his skateboard landed him head first on the concrete and caused a traumatic brain injury that would put him on life support for 41 days.

Time is up to apply to run the water-based fuel services at Lake Mead National Recreation Area's Echo Bay.

The application period ended Wednesday, May 15 at 3 p.m.

The previous fuel station closed February 1, after the contract expired. An agreement kept open other facilities, but no one could be found for the water-based fuel service.

Park officials are hoping to find someone to operate the service in time for the busy summer season. The closest alternative is now 30 miles away at Callville Bay.

When issued, the permit would allow someone to provide the service for one year, starting May 20, through May 19, 2014.
