Mongols Gather in Boulder City

Hundreds of bikers are in southern Nevada for two separate, international gatherings. The Mongols and the Hells Angels are both gathering here. The clubs have a violent past with each other that has some people worried.

Organizers of the Mongols event say between 400 and 800 people are expected at what they describe as a family reunion. While just 25 miles away, in Las Vegas, hundreds of Hells Angels will be at their own gathering.

In 2002, a clash between the clubs at the Laughlin River Run left three people dead. In 2008, the clubs brawled in a Las Vegas wedding chapel. Two bikers were stabbed.

"At first, I must say I was a little bit concerned, not because of the Mongol nation coming here, I welcome them. I just hope that everybody gets along well and has a good time," Alan Stevens with the Coffee Cup Restaurant in Boulder City said.

Local, state and federal law enforcement have beefed up patrols in Boulder City to make sure everyone stays safe. Boulder City Police Chief Thomas Finn says it would be irresponsible not to be prepared for the worst.
