Lake Mead Highlights the Sky with Astronomy Weekend

 

The Lake Mead Recreation Area wants everyone to look to the skies for this weekend’s Astronomy Weekend.

The weekend will include several sky-related events at locations around the recreation area Friday through Sunday. Park rangers will give guided night time hikes along the Historic Railroad Trail, constellation tours, telescope viewing opportunities, daytime sun and moon programs and lectures on nocturnal animals in the Mojave Desert. The highlight will be the Perseid meteor shower, which is expected to peak Sunday night.

No reservations are required for the events.

  • Owls survive from Alaska to the Amazon. Join Rangers to learn how they survive in one of the hottest and driest places on Earth.

  • Join Lake Mead Rangers for an easy, 2-mile evening hike on the Railroad Tunnel Trail. Along the way, we will look for nocturnal animals as we watch the day turn to night.
