Public Meetings Set for Interstate 11 Plan

Officials from Nevada and Arizona want to know what people in both states have to say about a plan to create an interstate connecting Las Vegas to Phoenix.

The departments of transportation for both states will be holding a series of meetings for the proposed Interstate 11 project over the next few weeks.

The study team has put together a Corridor Justification Report that explains the possible alternatives for where the road will go. During the meetings, people will get a chance to see the plans and voice their opinions.

Northbound Lanes of U.S. 93 Restricted Wednesday

Restrictions along U.S. 93 near Railroad Pass Casino will be in place again Wednesday.

Nevada Department of Transportation crews shut down the northbound lanes of the freeway from 7 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Crews will be closing the same area from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Crews will be repairing a section of guardrail that was damaged Sunday when a truck carrying ice cream hit it and went off the road. They are also having to rebuild the shoulder area that was damaged in the crash.

While NDOT hopes to be done by Wednesday afternoon, it may extend the lane restrictions through Thursday, if work is not finished.

Bypass Open House Set for Wednesday Afternoon

Bypass Open House Set for Wednesday Afternoon

State and federal agencies will host a public hearing Wednesday afternoon on the proposed Boulder City Bypass Project.

The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of Boulder City High School, 1101 Fifth St. A presentation will be made by officials at 5:30 p.m. The bypass is proposed as a means of easing traffic congestion in and near Boulder City, which suffers from backed-up cars and trucks trying to access the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge between Nevada and Arizona.

Discussion recently has focused on the cost of right-of-way acquisitions for the project, which could top $100 million, as a recent report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal indicated. Boulder City Bypass Phases 1 and 2 are two segments of a future four-lane freeway that will reduce traffic congestion along U.S. 93 and intersecting streets in Boulder City.
