National Park Week will be celebrated at Lake Mead National Recreation Area starting Saturday with a host of events.

April 21-29 will be the dates for free entry and events for the family.

National Park Week Events at Lake Mead National Recreation Area:

  • Saturday, April 21: Callville Bay will have a “cleanup” walk. The event runs 9 a.m.-noon.  Registration will be at Callville Bay’s lounge from 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided. Call Forever Resorts at 565-8958 for more information.
  • Saturday, April 28: Seed Collection Days – Lake Mead is looking for volunteers to assist our Native Plant Nursery staff in collecting seeds to propagate in the nursery this next year. Volunteers will learn from our botanist about some of our native plants, why we collect, and how. For more information or to register, contact Chris at 293-8711 or Christopher_Pietrafeso@nps.gov.
  • Saturday, April 28:  Jr. Ranger Day -- 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Children of all ages are invited to the Boulder Beach Picnic Area to hang out with park rangers, Mojave Max and Smoky Bear, meet some reptiles, learn about local archeology, explore the park and earn a Jr. Park Ranger badge.

Park concessionaires will be offering specials throughout the week.

The Western National Parks Association Store will offer a 15 percent discount on all items, such as books, postcards, T-shirts and/or other gifts. The store is located at 601 Nevada Way, Boulder City, at the park’s temporary visitor center location in park headquarters.

The fee waiver only applies to entrance fees and not to camping, lake use, concessionaire or other special amenity fees. The next time entrance fees will be waived is June 9 in celebration of Get Outdoors Day.
